An artist’s studio must be an open space but at the same time a refuge where one can experience, an intimate place where something unexpected happens. One has to be able to feel comfortable in it, it has to be a place adapted to one’s linguistic-expressive needs. I feel the need to experience the studio without necessarily painting. I don’t like to force myself when I don’t feel it. It feels good to tidy up the studio where I notice clutter. Sometimes I stand and stare for several minutes at the large board that I use as a support for painting, which always acquires fascination over the years, although I prefer to sit in the rocking chair. That’s it for me, it distracts me from all the chaos outside, it makes me feel good. I also live moments of frenzy and work with few pauses, just the time for a glass of water, with my hands dirty with crayon. I like these moments because I feel the right energy to produce something interesting. However, an artist’s studio should not be confined within four walls. I feel I also experience the outdoors, in nature, walking, running and being contaminated and stimulated by the outdoors, observing and then taking one’s experience back to one’s own refuge, a bit like a hiker who after a long walk recovers his energy for the next day. This is how I see it, but it is my vision. Every place other than one’s own studio brings nourishment, sap of ideas and new energy to be preserved in the most productive moments.
