Atmosfere

Atmospheres fits seamlessly within his artistic vision, where the landscape is never a mere depiction but a perceptual condition, a threshold between what is seen and what is felt. In this series, Severino appears more interested in capturing the air that surrounds things than in the objects themselves: space becomes elusive, light diffused, contours unstable. The use of oil pastel in these works enhances the sensory and tactile quality of the image. Unlike traditional oil painting, pastel retains a more material, almost powdery presence. The result is a painting that reflects on temporal suspension and the intimate experience of landscape.
